" Obesity - points out Dr. López-Nava - is the main cause of preventable cancer. We are not saying that being overweight causes cancer, but it does increase the risk and can be remedied." The medical explanation focuses on cell division: fat cells produce more hormones and this causes the body's cells to divide more frequently, increasing the possibility of cancer cells developing.

For its part, the International Agency for Research on Cancer points out, in its Global Cancer Observatory, the impact of obesity as another of the most important preventable causes of tumors and, however, less recognized.

Obesity, on the rise in Spain

According to a study by the Institute of the Sea Hospital Medical Research, 80% of adult men in Spain and 55% of women presented overweight or obese in 2030, exceeding 27 million people.
